Please enjoy a little of the history of Blueroof Farm.
This plaque reads:
At Blueroof Farm —
In the maple woods, pause to remember Sarah Phillips
who pioneered this farm after her husband was killed
in the war of 1812.Also the river drivers who lost their lives downstream
from Dead Man's Point — a rock that juts out, forming
a submerged island in the Spring that created the
dreaded log jams in the 1840's.The VanLuven family purchased the farm in 1840 after
Sarah's death. They suffered the loss of two
small children who played on the forbidden boons,
fell under the logs, and drowned.Sarah, two of her sons, the river drivers from Quebec,
and the two VanLuven children rest forever in these
woods where the maples meet the hemlocks.Written by Kim Ondaatje. Illustrated by Catherine Dolcini, 1997.
