Toys For Puppies

One of the best toys for a puppy or a batch of puppies is a large 5-litre clear plastic fruit juice jug or bottle with the plastic handle cut off. Drop some all natural dog biscuits into the bottle while the pups watch and then roll it around. They will soon roll it and bat it until a reward falls out. You can learn a great deal about the character of the puppies by observing them play this game.

The Best Ones

The most endurable rubber toys are Kongs, which you can stuff with bread and cookies. Trying to remove these treats keeps a Dalmatian occupied for a long time.

Tug-of-war ropes are excellent. Something to keep in mind, as pointed out in obedience school, is that your dog should not finish the game as the winner, as this reinforces his belief that it’s okay to pull you on a leash.

Hard rubber balls, at least the size of tennis balls, are excellent, as is a squeaky boxing glove.

As they get older they may have a soft toy, especially a teddy bear, to whom they can get very attached. Be careful that they don’t try to swallow the eyes if they happen to pull them off. Pet stores stock several plush toys made especially for pets, with sturdy stitching and no small parts attached.

Games

These dogs have fun playing catch, jumping through hula hoops, etc., and they love hide and seek, even in the house. You can give them a good workout inside by rolling a ball to retrieve or playing tug-of-war with a piece of nylon rope.
